#36: Day trip

2022-03-20 07:22:00am
The strong winds forecast overnight turned out to be mere puffs compared with the previous nights gale. Under a blue sky we left camp for a day trip up the Fox valley to Fox glacier. What a gem that turned out to be. We felt warmth from the sun for the first time though it didn’t last long as it wheeled behind a broad peak. The valley snaked it’s way south into the mountains, climbing though moraine to reach the base of Fox glacier. Here we found a spectacular frozen waterfall surrounded by hanging icicles and an exposed glacial ice face. Our high point on the glacier was surrounded by peaks and ridges. Each of us wanted to keep climbing but it was time to turn back and make the long descent back to camp, arriving at 6.30pm among the makings of another blizzard. Four seasons in one day.
